Sefar membrane is both woven from PTFE yarn and coated with PTFE, unlike PTFE/Fiberglass membrane – made from woven fiberglass & coated with PTFE. For permanent tensioned or retractable fabric membrane construction.
North American architects versed in tensile architecture are familiar with PTFE/Fiberglass membrane, yet not as familiar with a newer and far superior form of precision PTFE membrane woven by Sefar. Sefar PTFE membrane is made from 100% PTFE, meaning it is both woven from PTFE and coated with PTFE. Whereas, PTFE/Fiberglass membrane is woven from fiberglass and only coated with a layer of PTFE. This is why Sefar PTFE membrane transmits and diffuses more daylight, has greater durability and pliability, is foldable and flexible, and does not become brittle over time. Sefar EL-55-T0, for example, transmits and diffuses more daylight than PTFE/Fiberglass (up to 55%). Also, unlike PTFE/Fiberglass that installs with a yellow/brownish hue, all Sefar 100% PTFE membrane materials both install and remain a pristine white throughout their lifespan.
SEFAR Architecture TENARA® Fabric PTFE
Tenara® ePTFE (the e is for expanded) is the ultimate exterior architectural membrane. Unlike Sefar's other 100% PTFE membrane materials, woven from PTFE yarn, Tenara® Fabric is woven from an expanded form of PTFE fiber. This expansion of the PTFE fiber helps to create a material with extremely high strength to weight ratio, in addition to a high level of light transmittance – up to 38%.
Open weave exterior architectural mesh is becoming increasingly popular, due to a meshes ability to provide solar shading, yet maintain views to the exterior.
Sefar I/E-200-S PVDF mesh is an attractive, highly durable and remarkably strong, flexible mesh that provides an open area of 87%. Sefar PVDF mesh screen has also been used for interior shading applications.
